Maui High Country

So you need a break from the people on your Hawaiian Island Cruise and are looking for a change of pace? Here is teh perfect day trip excursion for you. If you want to experience true, unparalleled beauty, then you have to head to Maui’s high country, or up country, as some call it, when you are visiting. The countryside can make for a wonderful day trip

Maui Up Country

The high country really has very little development to this day, which makes it a rural paradise for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the larger cities and the throngs of tourists that haunt those locales. When you want to get away from it all and take in the majesty of verdant forests, fields of sugarcane and tracts of bamboo, the high country is the place to go.

Bring Your Camera

You are certainly going to want to bring your camera along with you when you visit the high country. The beauty of the area is stunning, and you are going to want to capture it on camera so that you can show others back home. Make sure that you have plenty of storage space for your digital pictures, as well as plenty of battery life. While you can take photos with your cell phone, you are really going to want to make sure that you bring along a decent camera, at least a point and shoot, to get some better shots.

Small Town Magic

Look out for some of the small towns and villages that dot the high country as well. Even though the development of many areas in up country is limited, you can still find towns that will have what you need.

You can find some great places to visit while you are in these towns too, such as art galleries and shops. You might even be able to find some great local cuisine that will help to give you a real taste of Hawaii that many tourists do not find. One of the little towns that you might want to visit is Makawao. The Makawao Forest Reserve is nearby as well, and it can present you and your traveling companions with even more places to explore and hike.

So Much to Do

Kula Country Farms

You will find quite a few properties with horse owners, as riding is popular when you get to this area of Maui. You can find some stables where you can get out on horseback and enjoy the island in a manner that some tourists never even consider. Of course, if horses aren’t your ideal mode of transportation, you still have your feet. Find some great hiking trails in the area that can take you to a host of beautiful locations. Even getting out in your rental car and exploring the roadways can bring you to some great and unexpected locations.

Even if you are just taking a day trip, you can experience quite a bit of the magic that the high country has to offer. Just make sure that you get up plenty early and head to the hills as soon as you are able. Beat the traffic and start experiencing paradise.

Beware Trespassing

As with some other spots around Maui, including the Road to Hana, you will want to be careful about taking a wrong turn whether you are driving or hiking. Some of the land here is private, and you do not want to trespass onto someone’s property.

Come Back

You will fall in love with the high country when you visit. It is sure to be a place that beckons you to come back. From the friendly locals to the matchless beauty. The Maui high country is a place that will carve out a permanent place in your heart and mind!
