China Meets Hawaii

The Hawaiian tourism industry is under pressure. With a troubled US economy, increasing fuel prices and many other factors including increased flight costs, many people are thinking twice about travelling. Although just as things were looking down, big news has emerged from China. A Beijing based charter company called “Mega Global Airway” has announced that will be offering 6 weekly non-stop flights to Hawaii this year. This will be the first ever direct flight offered from China to Hawaii.

Mega Global will offer flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Tianjin, tentatively beginning on July 28, and will offer flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from Hangzhou at the beginning of October. It is understood that the first two quarters are already sold out.

This is a shining light for Hawaii tourism. China is an economic powerhouse and is a rapidly developing nation with growing wealth. This will be a huge injection to the Hawaiian tourism industry across the board including Hawaiian Cruises.
